Part 2: The First Step
Part 2: The First Step

Emily's fingers tightened around the single crutch still supporting her.
The rain continued to fall.
No one moved.
Victor Ashford stared at his daughter as if the world had forgotten how to turn.
"Emily..."
His voice had become almost unrecognizable.
"...don't force yourself."
Emily looked down.
For two years...
Her legs had belonged to someone else.
Numb.
Silent.
Broken.
Now...
She could feel something.
Not strength.
Not pain.
Just...
The cold marble beneath her foot.
"I can feel it," she whispered.
The homeless boy smiled through the rain.
"I told you."
Victor slowly stepped closer.
Every bodyguard instinct screamed that the strange boy should be removed immediately.
Instead...
The billionaire knelt beside his daughter.
Something he hadn't done in years.
"Can you try?"
Emily swallowed hard.
She released the second crutch.
Gasps echoed across the courtyard.
For one terrifying second...
She wobbled.
Victor instinctively reached forward.
But before he could catch her...
Emily steadied herself.
Standing.
On both feet.
Her knees trembled violently.
Her dress clung to her legs.
Her breathing became shallow.
Yet...
She was standing.
A servant burst into tears.
Another covered her mouth.
One security guard quietly removed his cap.
Victor's eyes filled with tears for the first time since his wife had died.
"My little girl..."
Emily slowly looked up at him.
"Daddy..."
"I can feel my legs."
Victor wrapped both arms around her without caring that the rain soaked his expensive coat.
He cried openly.
The courtyard fell silent except for the sound of rain and a father thanking God.
When Victor finally turned toward the homeless boy...
The child had quietly picked up the empty pitcher.
"I should go now," he said softly.
Victor stood frozen.
"You gave my daughter back something no amount of money could buy."
The boy simply smiled.
"It wasn't me."
"It was hope."
Then he walked toward the mansion gates.
Barely anyone noticed...
Emily took one tiny step after him.
Then another.
Without the crutches.
