Chapter 5: Home Again

Chapter 5: Home Again

Six months later...

The mansion felt different.

Laughter replaced silence.

Music returned to the halls.

Sunlight filled rooms that had once carried fear.

Ethan ran across the gardens holding a kite while the same servants who once stayed silent now cheered him on.

His cheek had long since healed.

So had something much deeper.

The father never tried to erase what had happened.

Instead, he spent every day earning back his son's trust.

They had breakfast together.

Read bedtime stories together.

Visited Ethan's mother's favorite garden every Sunday.

One afternoon, they stood beneath the old oak tree overlooking the estate.

"Dad?"

"Yes?"

"Were you scared too?"

The father smiled sadly.

"Every day."

"I was afraid I had failed you."

Ethan slipped his small hand into his father's.

"You came back."

The father knelt beside him.

"I'll never leave you alone again."

The boy hugged him tightly.

This time...

He didn't hold back his tears.

Neither did his father.

Across the garden, the old butler quietly smiled.

Justice had not erased the pain.

But it had ended the fear.

And for the first time since losing his mother...

Ethan finally understood what home was supposed to feel like.
