The ballroom remained frozen.

No one spoke.

No one moved.

The billionaire's announcement echoed through the hall like thunder.

“Then everyone here just witnessed the return of my granddaughter.”

The young waitress felt her knees weaken.

“Granddaughter?” she whispered.

Her entire life had been ordinary. She had grown up in a small apartment with a single mother who worked two jobs. She had never known her father. Never known her grandparents.

Now an entire room full of wealthy strangers was staring at her as if she had just stepped out of a ghost story.

The blonde woman suddenly turned and ran.

“Stop her!” the billionaire shouted.

Security guards rushed forward.

Within seconds, she was surrounded.

Tears streamed down her face.

“I never meant for this to happen,” she cried.

“Then tell them everything,” the old man said coldly.

The woman collapsed into a chair.

Twenty years earlier, she had been the family's trusted nanny.

Consumed by jealousy and debt, she had kidnapped the billionaire's infant granddaughter and sold her to a criminal network that forged new identities for children.

But when she learned the baby had been given to a struggling young widow, she lied to the family and claimed the child had died.

For twenty years, the family mourned.

For twenty years, the little girl grew up never knowing who she truly was.

The waitress covered her mouth in shock.

Everything she believed about her life had just shattered.

And yet one question remained.

“Where is my mother?”

The room fell silent again.

The blonde woman lowered her head.

“She died three years ago.”

The young woman began to cry.
