Chapter 1: The Wedding That Never Began

Olivia hung up without another word.

She looked down at the tiny boy sleeping against her chest.

His fingers wrapped instinctively around one of hers, and every ounce of pain Ethan had caused suddenly felt smaller than the life she was holding.

"He'll never make you feel unwanted," she whispered.

Three days later, she and her son left the hospital.

No social media posts.

No birth announcement.

No calls to Ethan.

If he had wanted to know whether she was alive, he could have asked months ago.

Instead, he was preparing a luxury wedding.

Across town, Ethan Calloway stood inside the grand ballroom of the Hawthorne Estate, surrounded by crystal chandeliers and white roses. Reporters waited outside. Investors, politicians, and business partners filled the front rows.

His bride, Vanessa Sinclair, smiled for every camera.

She had won.

Or so she believed.

An hour before the ceremony, Ethan's attorney hurried through the private entrance, his face unusually pale.

"We have a problem."

Ethan frowned.

"This isn't the time."

"It can't wait."

The attorney handed him a thick envelope.

"Your divorce settlement."

Ethan looked confused.

"It was finalized months ago."

"It wasn't."

"What?"

"There was one document your legal team never received because your wife disappeared before signing."

Ethan stared at him.

"So?"

"So legally... your marriage wasn't fully dissolved until yesterday."

His face drained of color.

"If today's ceremony goes ahead..."

The attorney swallowed.

"...you'll be committing bigamy."

The wedding coordinator froze.

Guests began whispering.

Vanessa slowly turned toward Ethan.

"What is he talking about?"

For the first time in years...

Ethan had no answer.
