CHAPTER 3 — THE GREATEST GIFT

The guests expected applause.
Instead...
The ballroom doors opened.
An elderly doctor hurried inside.
"I came as soon as I heard."
He stopped when he saw the little girl smiling.
His eyes widened.
"This... this shouldn't be possible."
The father recognized him immediately.
He was the neurologist who had treated his daughter for years.
After examining her legs, the doctor slowly stood.
"I need everyone to understand something."
The room fell silent again.
"She isn't cured."
Hope flickered...
Then nearly disappeared.
"But today proved something we believed was gone."
"What?"
The doctor smiled.
"Her muscles still remember."
He explained that years of therapy had strengthened her body, but fear had become stronger than her legs.
Every failed attempt.
Every painful fall.
Every adult telling her to be careful.
She had slowly stopped believing she could even try.
"But this boy..."
The doctor looked toward Noah.
"...didn't ask whether she could walk."
"He asked whether she wanted to."
That single question changed everything.
The father covered his face as tears finally escaped.
For years he had protected his daughter from disappointment.
Without realizing it...
He had also protected her from hope.
He turned to Noah.
"You gave my daughter back something no money could buy."
Noah quietly shook his head.
"No."
"I only reminded her she already had it."
