"First Victim Emerges After Unredacted Files Are Released — And More May Follow "

PARIS, FRANCE — The latest controversy surrounding the files linked to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is sending shockwaves through international political circles.

One of the most prominent figures caught in the fallout is veteran French politician Jack Lang, a former culture minister and longtime member of France’s Socialist political movement. Lang has now officially stepped down from his leadership role at the Arab World Institute as a financial investigation intensifies.

The resignation follows the opening of a formal inquiry by France’s national financial prosecutor into alleged “aggravated tax fraud and money laundering.”

The probe reportedly involves Lang and his daughter, Caroline Lang, and centers on financial structures that investigators say may have involved offshore entities.

According to reporting from the investigative outlet Mediapart, investigators are examining alleged financial and business connections that may have existed between individuals connected to Lang and networks associated with Epstein.

Some reports claim that these links may have been facilitated through a shell company registered in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a jurisdiction often scrutinized in international financial investigations.

Documents referenced in recent media reports suggest Lang’s name appeared numerous times in communications contained in newly discussed Epstein-related materials, with references allegedly spanning from 2012 to 2019. However, the context and meaning of those mentions remain disputed, and no criminal wrongdoing has been proven in court.

Lang’s legal team strongly rejected the allegations. His lawyer stated that the former minister is “deeply hurt by the accusations” and argued that the claims circulating in media reports are “inaccurate and misleading.” Despite these denials, political pressure in Paris intensified quickly.
